Felisine is a paste for cats with Feline Herpesvirus.

Containing the essential amino acid L-Lysine,  Felisine paste presents a palatable approach to addressing the complications associated with Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1) infections.

Understanding Feline Herpesvirus: FHV-1 infection is a prevalent feline ailment characterized by symptoms like sneezing, nasal and ocular inflammation, corneal ulcers, and fever. Startlingly, up to 97% of cats carry this virus, which remains latent in nerve tissue near the brain after initial exposure. Stressful periods can trigger the virus to move along nerves and potentially damage the eyes. Common stressors include introducing new pets, changing homes, or even leaving the cat during vacations.

The L-Lysine Solution: Although no cure exists for FHV-1, effective management is within reach. Research demonstrates that cats supplemented with appropriate doses of L-Lysine exhibit milder clinical signs following FHV-1 infection compared to those without supplementation. Cats usually consume insufficient L-Lysine from their regular diets to inhibit FHV-1 replication. Another study reveals that administering L-Lysine during stressful periods reduces viral shedding.

How L-Lysine Works: FHV-1 relies on arginine, an amino acid, for replication and growth. L-Lysine, also an amino acid, competes with arginine when introduced as a supplement, thereby hindering viral replication. Importantly, L-Lysine supplementation doesn’t affect essential amino acid levels or cause arginine deficiency in cats.

Directions for use

• For Adult Cats: Administer 1 to 2 grams twice a day.
• For Kittens: Provide 1 gram twice a day (equivalent to 1.5cm of gel).

Cats susceptible to FHV-1 recurrences or those with multiple reactivation episodes benefit from long-term Felisine supplementation.
